After massive search efforts for escaped murderers David Sweat and Richard Matt centered on Allegany County over the past weekend authorities have intensified their search near Owls Head, a hamlet about 20 miles west of the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.

According to the Associated Press authorities believe they have discovered items in a cabin that are linked to the two escaped convicts.  State Police Major Charles Guess says that items found in a cabin near Owls Head are believed to match DNA from one of the two escapees.

Law enforcement teams are scouring the area near that cabin after police were contacted by the cabin's owner.  Hundreds of police from various agencies including the New York State Police are now reportedly concentrating efforts of the manhunt in that area.

Sweat and Matt have been on the run since they escaped from the Clinton County Correctional Facility on June 6th.  Police have been investigating several thousand tips pertaining to sightings or information about the pair.
