I know you’ve seen the commercials with the online dating companies and even though they claim to be able to find romantic matches for their customers, scientists are calling their bluff.

To date, there have been absolutely no mathematical formulas that could predict a successful romantic match. But a group of researchers say they’re getting close.

A team of researchers at the University of Iowa say they’re just about there when it comes to creating a mathematical romantic match formula and that the work they’re doing is based on techniques used by Netflix.

Instead of making matches based on the results of the profiles filled out by the love seekers (which we all know are usually incomplete and inaccurate), the new system attempts to make matches based on recommendations and user activity.

In other words, the computer looks for trends and tries to figure out the sorts of people you’re looking into and going out with and then it offers up other suggested people who have similar traits

The lead researcher says this system gives those using it a 40 percent better chance of finding your soul mate.

Math pretty much makes my head feel like it’s going to explode, so for the sake of humanity, I avoid it at all costs. However, if math is your think and you’re fascinated by this and want to see the actual love formula breakdown and learn more about this project, you can do that here.
