Everyone loves Friday, but it turns out that "TGIF" isn't just a cute acronym. It's an actual state of being that impacts Friday afternoon workplace productivity.

For most employees, the weekend actually starts at 2:39 pm on Friday, even if they stay at their desk until 5pm.

In a survey of 2,000 employees, people admitted to putting an average of three important tasks on hold until Monday. A quarter said they regularly ignore e-mails on Fridays, and almost one-third said they let their calls go straight to voicemail.

There must be a lot of long lunches, internet surfing and office gossip going on Friday afternoons.

Wouldn't the perfect solution be half day Friday? If nobody is working anyway, why not start the weekend early. Yeah, I know- but a girl can dream, can't she?
