Sayonara Betamax

If you're someone who remembers the 1980s, there's a pretty good chance you also remember the epic battle between VHS videotapes and Betamax tapes. It was brutal, but  VHS ended up winning in the end.

I know this is going to be hard to believe, but after the battle ended, Betamax didn’t vanish as most of us thought that it did.  Players were still made until 2002 and get this, Sony was still making tapes until very recently.

All of that has changed though. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Sony is now finally, officially, totally out of the Betamax business and has stopped making the tapes.

If you've got a Betamax player, don't panic! You've still got time to scoop up all the tapes your little heart desires- but only until March of 2016. After that, you're on your own.
