I lived for snow days when I was a kid because it meant that I'd grab my sled and knock on the door of each of my friends and we've form a little snow troop and make our way to the local park where we'd sled until our legs felt like Jello and then we'd cram into the kitchen of one of our homes and warm up with hot chocolate.

Sledding is a winter pastime for people of all ages. Whether you’ve ridden on top of a real sled, a garbage can top, or just on your belly, you know what a thrill sledding can be. And I think if you have special memories of sledding, you'll agree with how sad I am to hear that some cities are banning sledding.

In cities such as Boone, Iowa; Des Moines, Iowa; Dubuque, Iowa, Montville, New Jersey; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Columbia City, Indiana, sledding in city-owned parks is prohibited and a fine of up to $750 is being issued for anybody who doesn’t abide by the new rule.

According to Fox News, the movement for this rule to take place started when cities had to pay settlements to people where sledding had resulted in an injury. Some of these settlements were as much as $12 million!

I'm all for sledding, but at your own risk. Sledding is a great physical activity for children, when done right, so with that said, please make sure that your kids are sledding in safe areas and maybe throw a helmet and some protective wear, such as elbow and knee pads, on them for extra protection if you're concerned.

Or, you could back porch sled like I did last winter with my next door neighbors....
