Do you have a lot of prescription drugs that have accumulated in your medicine cabinet?  Not only is it not a good idea to keep unused prescription drugs around your kids but placing them in your garbage or worse yet, flushing them, is not safe, with the latter polluting the water supply and will effect everyone in the long run.

The Untied States Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring drop off sites to collect unused and unneeded prescription drugs all around the nation today, including at three sites in Broome County.

According to a SRI poll, 84% of New York residents have prescription medication currently in their home.  2 in 5 teens believe prescription drugs are safer than illegal drugs.

Local residents can get rid of the medications Saturday at the Vestal Fire Station No. 4 on the Vestal Parkway, just before the Target Plaza and at the Johnson City Elks on Watson Boulevard from 10 - 2 p.m Saturday.  Some locations will continue to take these pills next week as well. Please call to confirm.

It's also worth noting that the Broome County Office Building in downtown Binghamton has a convenient drop off box in the lobby that you can use during regular business hours and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Building on Lieutenant VanWinkle Drive, off Upper Front Street at the North entrance to SUNY Broome Community College, is also an ongoing drop off location.
