Rewards Offered in Binghamton Park Graffiti Case

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Two rewards have been posted to find the person responsible for scrawling the phrase "Have a Nice Day" and a "smiley face" in Binghamton's Cheri Lindsey Memorial Park.

The graffiti in the North Side park mimicked the note left by the convicted killers who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility.

Conrad Taylor, a candidate for Binghamton City Council, said his campaign would offer a $150 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the apprehension of the culprit.

After learning of the graffiti and Taylor's reward announcement, David Lindsey - Cheri Lindsey's father - said he would add $500 to the posted reward.

Lindsey said he feels certain the person responsible for the spray-painted message will be found. He said, "somebody's going to squeal on somebody."

Lindsey said this type of graffiti is unusual for the park. He noted many young people who use the facility work to keep it in good condition.

Cheri Lindsey was 12 years old when she was killed by a customer on her newspaper route in 1984. James Wales Sr. is serving a 33-year-to-life prison term for killing the girl.
