Reba McEntire Admits Some Songs on New Album Were Difficult to Sing

Reba McEntire released her first-ever gospel album Sing It Now: Songs of Faith and Hope earlier this year, and the country legend admits that it was difficult to sing several songs on the record.

“Some [of the songs] were so tender that it was hard for me to sing but that’s when the Holy Spirit’s in me,” she says in an interview with her label, Big Machine Label Group. “And every morning [I would say], ‘Holy Spirit think for me, talk for me, help me sing this song, walk for me, just be there every breath I breathe. Give me the words you want me to say, help me sing this song.'”

McEntire reveals it’s this prayer that she recites every morning, and as a result, she is able to get through the day and complete the task at hand. “It just works out like that. And when I sing it, it will either be sweet or it’ll be a preaching message but it all comes out the way it’s supposed to because of the help I get,” she shares.

The redheaded legend recently released a new version of her single “Back to God,” featuring contemporary Christian star Lauren Daigle. In a previous interview, McEntire said two of the songs on her latest album, “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden,” brought back memories of family members who have since passed away.

“The hardest one to sing is ‘How Great Thou Art’ because that was Grandma Smith’s, one of her favorite songs,” McEntire tells Taste of Country. “I was so emotional listening to it I would just sob.”
