Randy Houser Goes Acoustic at ToC Fest After Bus Breaks Down [Pictures]

Very few performers can take a stage in front of nearly 20,000 rowdy country fans and deliver a stirring, satisfying, hour-long acoustic performance. Randy Houser did just that at the Taste of Country Music Festival on Saturday night, after his bus broke down leaving his crew unable to get his gear to Hunter Mountain.

The ‘Goodnight Kiss’ singer has a growing catalogue of hits, including ‘Boots On,’ ‘How Country Feels’ and ‘Anything.’ The audience — revved up after a day that featured Craig Morgan, the Cadillac Three and Leah Turner — didn’t intend to simmer down for Houser, and they didn’t have to. By the time he got to his cover of Garth Brooks‘ ‘Friends and Low Places’ it was clear he’d made fans of everyone who may have been disappointed to see he couldn’t gear up for ToC Fest.

The singer said he felt like he was just sitting on the floor sipping beer with friends. Off stage Charlie Worsham remarked that few could pull off what Houser was doing, crediting his “900-pound voice.” The new single from ‘How Country Feels’ is ‘Like a Cowboy.’ His deep baritone soared across the valley and Hunter, N.Y. mountainside.

Houser’s bus broke down several hundred miles outside of the central New York venue, forcing him to scramble to get to the show on time. He performed well under pressure, leaving headliner Brad Paisley a high bar to hurdle. Watch a short video before checking out pictures from the show below.
