Today is one of my favorite days of the year- it's National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day!

Pastrami was originally created as a way to preserve meat before modern refrigeration and is made by raw meat being brined, partially dried, seasoned with various herbs and spices, then smoked and steamed. What was created out of necessity of sorts, has become a celebrated day for anyone who loves the taste of this delicious meat.

In honor of National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, I give you my favorite recipe for a quick and easy hot pastrami sandwich as well as a video explaining how to make this mouth watering sandwich.

Quick and Easy Hot Pastrami Sandwich

Ingredients:

  1. 2 lbs cooked and thinly sliced beef pastrami,
  2. 4 -8 slices havarti cheese
  3. Coarse ground mustard
  4. Dill pickle slices
  5. Thinly sliced onions
  6. 8 -16 slices rye bread or 4-8 sandwich buns
  7. 1 cup beef broth

Directions:

  1. Simmer pastrami in broth until hot- it'll shrivel up, this is okay!
  2. Divide meat among bread
  3. Add cheese, mustard, pickles, and onions to taste
  4. Grill sandwich until toasty and crisp if you'd like
