Yesterday, President Obama unveiled a new scientific initiative to study the human brain which he called “the next great American project.”

In President Obama’s proposed 2014 budget, he said he’ll call for a $100 million investment in the BRAIN (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) Initiative.

The project is aimed at speeding up the development and application of technologies that will help researchers create dynamic brain imaging in order to learn how individual brain cells and complex neural circuits interact.

The hope is that this research could lead to new ways to treat brain disorders like Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy or traumatic brain injury. Plus, President Obama said it could lead to new jobs for millions of Americans.
