Police See Link Between Binghamton Shooting Incidents

Investigators say they believe a shooting at a Binghamton apartment complex is connected with gunfire directed at a residential building a few hours later.

City police say 29-year-old Eric Cureton was shot during a confrontation involving two groups of men at Carlisle Hills Apartments on Moeller Street on the East Side.

Monday afternoon's verbal dispute happened on the Spellicy Boulevard side of the complex.

Detectives say a man fired a handgun into a parked SUV that was occupied by two men. Cureton was found by police in an apartment. He was hospitalized in serious condition after undergoing surgery.

The shooter and other men involved in the confrontation fled the area in a pickup truck and on several motorcycles.

Binghamton police later pursued suspects on motorcycles from the city to the Port Crane area but they eluded officers.

The second shooting incident was reported around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at 1216 Vestal Avenue on the South Side.

Investigators say someone fired several shots at a first-floor apartment. The suspects raced away in a vehicle. Police say no injuries were reported.

Detectives say the shootings are believed to involve "persons on opposing sides of an ongoing feud between men living in the area."
