The original apocalyptic film 'Planet of the Apes' was released 49 years ago, it spawned several sequels and July 14th Hollywood unleashes another Ape War.

Almost 50 years since the original was released, Hollywood is still trying to put a different twist on the 1968 classic with the release of 'War for the Planet of the Apes, already a sequel from the 2014 remake 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'

With all the movie remakes that have come out over the past year you have to wonder if Hollywood is running out of ideas.

I will always be a fan of the original Planet of the Apes movies of the late 60’s early 70’s.

Yes they may have been a bit campy at times, but the cinematography in the original movie was state of the art back then, and the storyline was interesting and had a lot to offer, time travel, an apocalyptic nuclear war, mutants, and talking apes.

I use to collect the bubble gum cards and I remember the Airport Drive-In would sometimes have an Ape-O-Rama where they would show all the movies back to back.

Enjoy the trailers for the originals 5 movies and some of Roddy McDowell’s home movies filmed on location during the shooting, plus the trailer for the new summer Apes release.
