For the first time in roughly 30 years, Penn State University has a new logo.

Officials at Penn State have announced a big change at the school. It's out with the old and in with the new as the lion logo with the 1855 shield has been replaced with a new, more contemporary look.

The university says that the new logo will pop much better on the web, in social media, and on video.

So what about the athletic logo? Officials can't stress enough that the logo change only applies to the academic shield. The athletic logo is not being changed.

How are people taking the change in logo? Not so well. There's a petition that already has over three thousand signatures and these are just a few of the hundreds of comments from people who don't like the new logo:

  • Alex Bishop- I'm signing because this logo does not represent the values of strength and tradition that Penn State exemplifies.
  • Nicole Burke- This logo is terrible. Childish. Lazy. It looks like it was thrown together in five minutes.
  • Chris Butler-This is unprofessional and unofficial looking and should be buried where it will never be found again.
The school is taking the negative comments well. When asked about criticism posted on an alumni Facebook page, university spokeswoman Lisa Powers  "You can't please everyone. This is a common reaction with the introduction of any new identity upgrade. We really value everyone's input, but this is necessary ... We did expect some pushback."
By the way, Penn State has announced which band will perform at their homecoming kickoff event on October 4th, and that honor goes to country duo Dan + Shay!
