Sierra Holte Klein, daughter of Deborah Holte of Oxford, recently received the first 2015 Fort Hill American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit #376 scholarship. Currently Sierra attends Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and majors in finance.

Sierra is a graduate of Oxford Academy’s Class of 2015. In high school, Sierra was an honor roll student, and also received several art awards. In her junior year, she served as student government secretary. In her senior year she was in the New Visions Law and Government program. After moving to TN, she became Mrs. Casey Klein.

Currently, Sierra is a freshman in the Jennings A. Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University. Her concentration is in Business Finance with a minor in Administration. To qualify for the Dean’s List distinction at MTSU, a student must maintain a current semester grade-point average of 3.5 or above and earn at least 12 semester hours. After Sierra’s first Fall semester at MTSU, she has earned a GPA of 4.0 and is on the Dean’s List.

The ALA Unit 376 sponsored this $500 scholarship, for the first time, to benefit a young female graduating senior of Oxford Academy High School. The scholarship is aimed at helping a veteran’s daughter/granddaughter who is a member (or child of a member) of “The American Legion Family” of Post 376. Students who are following their education/career dreams are of the greatest interest to the ALA, not necessarily those with the best grades or least funds. The American Legion Auxiliary believes that the more knowledge our young people gain, the better citizens they will become. That is why the organization is so committed to education.

As an American Legion legacy, Sierra’s mother Deb is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 376. She is eligible for membership through WWII Veteran, Edward Zipay, Deb’s stepfather, a member of the American Legion in Binghamton and Sierra’s grandfather.
