My kids love to go ice skating and look forward to the Binghamton Devils free post-game skate and mark it on their calendar. By the way, the two remaining dates at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Arena is January 3rd and February 22nd.

In the meantime, we may have to take a trip down 81 South to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. On Tuesday, December 10th, it's the 16th Annual Toys for Tots Open Skate at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Anyone bringing a new, unwrapped toy or making a $5.00 contribution to Toys for Tots can skate. The Open Skate runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and free snacks will be available. You can buy light refreshments with partial proceeds going to Toys for Tots.

You'll also have a chance to win great prizes including tickets to The Harlem Globetrotters, Disney on Ice, Monster Jam, Jeff Dunham and more at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

This is the only time throughout the year that the public is allowed to skate on the ice at the home of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. You must have your own skates to get on the ice and Mohegan Sun Arena will not have skates on-site for rent.

The good news is that skate rentals will be available at the Toyota SportsPlex (Community Ice Rink) at Coal Street in Wilkes-Barre. It's only $3 per pair starting at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 9th.

There are a limited number of skate rentals available and you must have a proper photo ID and a credit card to rent skates They must be returned before 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11th.

On the ice, the Penguins are our hated rival but off the ice, it's worth the drive to help out the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.
