The calendar reads early October and the air is noticeably cooler.  This is a perfect weekend to get together with friends and family for some Oktoberfest celebrating and as it turns out, there are two this weekend: one is a first-time event in downtown Binghamton, and the other is a 3- day favorite in Maine, New York.

Downtown Binghamton will come alive again with a great first-time event as they roll out Binghamton Oktoberfest Saturday 1-6pm.   Think of it as a huge block party on State Street, between Lewis and Henry Streets.  Expect German fare, traditional German games, live entertainment and over 15 kinds of beers.  There will be a $10 entry fee at the gate but the first 500 peeps will receive a really cool 17-ounce collectible beer stein.  In case of rain, there will be tents set up on State Street.

Just down the road a bit on Route 26, the big white tents are ready as the Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine is hosting their Oktoberfest complete with traditional German food and beers, crafts, money giveaways and a full lineup of music. This festival has free admission Friday 6-11pm, Saturday 2-11pm and Sunday 11am-3pm.

One of the reasons people love this Oktoberfest festival is because they always seem to feature great music year after year. Friday night's entertainment includes Old Friends from 7-11, Saturday it's Pasty White & Doublewide from 2-5pm, BC Celtic Pipe and Drum make an appearance from 6-6:30pm, Gravelding Bros (featuring former Frostbit Blues members) play Saturday night 7-11 and Sunday, Remedy play from 11:30am-2:30pm.

So no matter what the weather is, it sounds like a good weekend to visit downtown Binghamton and the town of Maine.  Enjoy Einladungzum!
