Even though most hunters are searching for that monster buck, New York State is looking for more bear hunters!  According to state figures however, about a tenth of them are looking for bears.

It's estimated that up to 8,000 black bears live in the Adirondacks and to keep conflicts in check, the new NYS DEC Bear Management plan allows more bear hunting, with some parts of the state seeing it for the first time in over 50 years, including the Hudson Valley. What it comes down to is black bears are now found statewide.

To prevent bear-human conflict, New York State is hoping to attract more bear hunters to help avoid these problems.  And people that have tried bear meat seem to love it.
