Gino Guler says the new restaurant will be a branch of Oakdale Pizza. He has operated that business in the Oakdale Mall for several years.

Crews began working inside the Court Street building a little over a week ago. The structure, which was designed by noted architect Isaac Perry, was built in 1870.

The building initially housed a bank. It also was home to Henry Wilson Jewelers for many years. Several other businesses, including a restaurant, a cellphone store and a pawn shop also have occupied the site.

Guler said he expects to hire seven or eight people to work at the new restaurant. In addition to pizza, he said the place will sell subs, Italian dinners and seafood.

Guler said he hopes the restaurant will open around September 1.

Seating will be available at several tables and at a counter along the Washington Street side of the restaurant. (Photo: Bob Joseph/WNBF News)
