April 6-12, 2014 is National Volunteer Week, a week dedicated to inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to find imaginative ways to get involved in their communities. It’s about showing that by working together, we have the strength to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.

If you’re looking for a way to get involved in volunteering in our community, there are a couple of events to help you get started.

There will be a Volunteer Fair on Wednesday April 9th at the Oakdale Mall from 12pm-3pm. At the volunteer fair, you’ll have a chance to meet with over 20 area non-profits and learn more about their missions, challenges, and how you can help make a difference.

The need for blood is constant and the gratification is instant. On Wednesday April 9th at the Oakdale Mall, there will be a blood drive with the American Red Cross from 12pm-6pm. All it takes is a pint of blood to save up to three lives. While walk-ins are welcome, it’s recommended that if you’re able, you call 800-RedCross to schedule an appointment.

On Thursday April 10th from 5:30pm to 7pm, you’re invited to the free 2014 Volunteer Recognition Reception at the DoubeTree by Hilton on Water Street in Binghamton. While at the reception, you can enjoy some free refreshments will celebrating local service members, volunteers, organizations and all who give back to their communities.
