An incredibly mystery virus has hit kids across the country and it has the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions searching for answers.

In Denver, more than 900 children have been seen for severe respiratory illness since mid-August with 86 of those kids admitted to Children's Hospital Colorado. In Columbus, Ohio, 73 children have been admitted to Nationwide Children's Hospital.

In addition to Colorado and Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Kentucky have also requested assistance from the CDC in investigating this illness.

According to the CDC, the people most likely to be hit by the illness are young kids and people who suffer from asthma.

Mark Pallansch is a virologist and director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Viral Diseases said that the reported cases could be "just the tip of the iceberg in terms of severe cases. We're in the middle of looking into this. We don't have all the answers yet."

Like other viruses, this one seems to spread through close contact with infected people. There’s not a whole lot you can do to stop the virus outside of using common sense. You should (and should encourage your kids to do the same!) wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds especially after using the restroom and changing diapers. You should also clean and disinfect surfaces that are regularly touched by different people, avoid shaking hands, kissing, hugging and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick. And most importantly- stay home if you don’t feel well!
