The latest weather challenge facing the Twin Tiers is coming in the form of mixed precipitation.

A number of schools opted to delay classes at the start of mixed precipitation in areas primarily north and east of the City of Binghamton.

On the heels of a double-barreled winter storm system that included several inches of snow, high winds, a drop in temperature and dangerously cold wind chill, the National Weather Service says there is a chance of a whole range of precipitation types to hit the region January 23

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. January 23.

The National Weather Service says mixed precipitation is expected. Total snow accumulations of less than one inch and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Tioga, Cortland and other counties in the Southern Tier and Central New York and in Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.

While accumulation totals don’t sound to be very high, officials say motorists should plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
