Miranda Lambert’s song “Two of a Crime” from the movie Hot Pursuit isn’t a duet with Sophia Vergara, but the Colombian-American actress certainly influenced it. Spanish horns and rhythms back Lambert as she sings her new gal-pal song.

Aside from the Latin arrangement, “Two of a Crime” sounds like something that could fit neatly into her catalog. “Red rose on painted lips / Putting on Chanel / Packing Parliaments / Side by side like fuzzy dice / If looks could kill we’d be doing time,” Lambert sings over a stormy, lengthy introduction.

A sparse drum beat drives the song, but Lambert’s melody at the chorus is what will hook fans when the movie’s soundtrack comes out. The film also stars Reese Witherspoon as a novice police officer who must protect a drug dealer’s widow (Vergara) from criminals and dirty cops.

“We’re a deadly combination, you and me / The way I play it cool / And you bring the heat / But I got your back and I know that you got mine / That makes us two of a crime,” Lambert sings at the chorus.

The film is a comedy, and Lambert’s song is anything but heavy. “Two of a Crime” leaves plenty of room for action should producers choose to feature it prominently in the film, which hits theaters on May 8.

Why Fans Will Love It: The arrangement captures the spirit of the movie as much as her lyrics.

Key Lyrics: “We’re a deadly combination, you and me / The way I play it cool / And you bring the heat / But I got your back and I know that you got mine / That makes us two of a crime.”
