Mirabito Stop DWI Holiday Classic At Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena

It’s been a Southern Tier tradition for the past 22 years and it began last night. It’s the Mirabito Stop DWI Holiday Classic at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Mirabito Stop DWI Holiday Classic

It all began with the inaugural Aldo Rossi Jr. Memorial game with members of local police agencies going against each other. Rossi, a Port Dickinson police officer, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2008.

The 3-point shooting competition had many local athletes including: Elloy Delarossa and David Loewen (Binghamton), Justin Ekstrom and Zach Wentlent  (Greene), Nick Chilson and Max Marshall (Johnson City), Kyle Gallagher and Jake Sinicki (Maine-Endwell),  Cody Barnes and Mike Sutton (Norwich), and Grant Eggleston and Robert Olsen (Seton Catholic Central).

The Slam Dunk competition was after that. Both the 3 Point and Slam Dunk competition has been moved from Binghamton H.S. to the Arena.

The basketball tournament itself begins today (12/28) at 11:15 with Binghamton vs Maine Endwell. 1pm: Philadelphia MC&S vs. New Rochelle. 2:45: Long Island Lutheran vs. Covington Holmes (Ky.).  5:45: John Carroll School (Md.) vs. Poly Prep (NYC).  7:30: Fayetteville-Manlius vs Johnson City  9:15: Christ The King vs. St. Michael’s (Toronto).

Day 2 begins with Norwich vs. Greene at 11:15 a.m. It also features New York Mills and Seton Catholic Central at 7:30. To keep up with all the activities, check them out on Facebook at Mirabito Stop-DWI Holiday Classic
