The news, this morning of Kevin Sharp's death was a bit of a shock. I knew he had several complications from his cancer treatments, but the extent surprised me.

It is true that Country Music lost a talent, but the world lost a good, good man.

You all know how he became an artist, but here are some tidbits on how he helped give back. When Kevin first hit the scene, fully, in 1997, he came to the station I was at for a visit and to share his new music. You could tell when you talked to him that Kevin was grateful for every opportunity.

Shortly after that, he played a show in the area and invited kids with cancer backstage. I got to see his interaction; it was pure awesomeness. Those children felt so special after talking with him!

After that, he helped us with Children's Miracle Network radiothons. He was never too busy. In 2006, after I moved on, he helped my new station do a charity event. He had released his 3rd album by then and was quietly in the business.

Sometimes when I talked to him, I felt guilty that I wasn't doing enough when this guy was dedicating his life and music to giving back. Kevin always told people who felt that way that we were playing an important part.

I always wondered what kind of toll the cancer treatments took on his body, but you could never see any. Now we know, sadly, that it was a large toll.

There are a couple things to take away from Kevin Sharp's story. Never give up and always give back. If Kevin touched your life, stop by his website to find out how you can help others.
