State environmental officials have scheduled a meeting to discuss a proposal to deal with chemical contamination at the former IBM Endicott manufacturing site.

The Department of Environmental Conservation plans to hold the session on March 7 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be at the First United Methodist Church at 53 McKinley Avenue in Endicott.

The agency also is accepting written comments for the proposed work through March 20.

Pollution at the site of IBM's first factory has been linked to releases of industrial solvents during manufacturing operations. Chemicals from the plant affected the soil and groundwater on the company's property and in areas surrounding the facility.

The environmental agency will consider public comment as it finalizes the cleanup plan for what has been designated a state Superfund site.

Documents about the ongoing cleanup associated with the IBM Endicott project are available online at the DEC website. They also may be reviewed at the George F. Johnson Memorial Library on Park Street in Endicott.
