If you've been listening to the Hawk, and I hope you have been, you may have heard health alerts on the dangers of colorectal cancer.  March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and there are a couple of things you need to know on how to prevent it.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in men and women.  The cancer is often preventable and treatable if detected early enough.

That's why it's important to get screened if you have a family history and defiantly if you or someone you know is 50 or older.

The American Cancer Society estimates that over 95,200 new cases of colon cancer will occur this year.  Early detection may prevent polyps from forming. The best thing to do is to consult with your doctor.

I had my colonoscopy last summer.  Even though I have a family history, after my diagnosis  of being polyp-free, I have been given the green light to wait another 10 years for another.  And that is a good feeling.  You should think about scheduling yours soon. Here's to your good health!
