One man was injured in a moving gun battle involving people in two vehicles on Interstate 81 in Cortland County.

Authorities say the man was shot around 3:20 Wednesday morning. He was a passenger in a Honda CRV.

The vehicle was southbound when gunshots were fired at it by someone in another vehicle.

The CRV - which had visible bullet holes - left I-81 at Exit 10. After driving a short distance on Route 41, the vehicle crashed into a yard near the village of McGraw.

The man who was struck by one of the shots sustained a wound to a hand. He was taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

According to state police, the injured man was with two other men in the CRV at the time of the incident.

The other vehicle involved in the shooting could not be located by investigators.
