The crash happened late Tuesday night at Lebanon Valley Speedway, about 25 miles southeast of Albany.

Authorities say Shawn Rivers of Castleton was pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center.

State police say the collision occurred around 10 p.m. during an annual event called "Eve of Destruction."

Investigators say Rivers was racing a Winnebago motorhome on the speedway track when it was struck by a vehicle.

The second vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Frank Sorrento of Rensselaer, crashed into the motorhome, causing it to overturn and collapse.

Rivers was extricated by medics and racetrack workers. Police say he sustained massive head trauma.
