So often when we talk about the odds of winning the lottery, we say there’s a better chance of being struck by lightning. So, with one lightning strike already under his belt, Peter McCathie had a pretty good chance of winning the lottery. And he did.

McCathie is now probably the only person in the world who can boast about experiencing two long-shots. The Nova Scotia man survived a lightning strike when he was 14-years-old and recently won $1 million in a local lottery.

The changes of both happening to the same person are incredibly slim. As a matter of fact a mathematics professor at the University of Moncton has figured out that the odds of being struck by lightning and winning the lottery are about one-in-2.6 trillion. McCathie says he always thought he'd get hit by lightning again before ever winning a lottery. Guess he proved himself wrong!
