An arrest has been made in connection with a brutal assault on a man at an off-road motorcycle racing event in Tioga County.

Authorities say 46-year-old Greogry Maier of Back West Creek Road, Newark Valley, was charged with third-degree assault.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Maier is accused of grabbing, punching, choking, kicking and throwing down a man at the Hare Scramble Races on Elmer Hill Road in the town of Candor.

Investigators say the man Maier allegedly attacked was hurt but they did not disclose the nature or severity of his injuries.

Officials say the assault occurred on August 2. Maier was arrested six days later.

Maier was ordered to appear in Candor town court on August 17.
