A Binghamton man allegedly rammed a large sport utility vehicle into two city police patrol cars after a fight with his wife.

Authorities say 34-year-old Edward McCray of Saratoga Avenue also struck two parked vehicles as he sped away when officers arrived to investigate the domestic dispute. The incident happened around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say McCray drove the SUV about five blocks before It crashed into a house at 6 Macon Street and overturned.

Police took McCray into custody after he jumped from the wrecked vehicle and tried to run away.

McCray was taken to police headquarters downtown, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated. He allegedly attempted to assault an officer while in custody.

He was charged with three felony counts of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer. He also face counts of attempted assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.

McCray was said to have menaced neighbors with a "sharp object" before leaving the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex.

Police say no injuries were reported during the dispute or its aftermath.
