Justin MacGregor has officially been seated as a member of Binghamton City Council.

MacGregor, a Democrat, was sworn in Wednesday evening to represent the Seventh District. The district covers the city's East Side.

MacGregor succeeds William Berg, who resigned from council on April 1 after he was charged with obstructing governmental administration.

The seven-member city council now has four Republicans and three Democrats.

On WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program before he was sworn in Wednesday, MacGregor said he had met with Mayor Richard David recently to discuss city issues. He said he looked forward to working with the mayor as a councilman.

Republican Thomas Scanlon has announced he will run for the Seventh District seat in a special election on November 8. MacGregor said he will be a candidate in that election. The winner will be expected to fill the remaining three years of the term to which Berg was elected last fall.
