Luke Bryan’s wordsmith skills were tested Monday night (Aug. 10) when he joined Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show for a game of Catchphrase versus announcer Steve Higgins and actor Chris Meloni, but it looks like the country singer may need to practice a little more at home.

Bryan did well giving clues, but when it came to guessing, he was a little rusty. To be fair, Fallon wasn’t helping with his hints. The pair lost the first round on the phrase “Coney Island,” a tough one for the Georgia native.

The next round went much better for the duo, coming down to a rapid-paced shouting of clues from each side, but the buzzer went off right at the last second before Bryan could begin his next word.

Unfortunately, two losing rounds meant Meloni’s team was the victor, and Bryan had to go home without bragging rights.

Perhaps the best moment, though, was after the fact, when Fallon said the four were working on promos during commercial break. Meloni went for a high-five, and Bryan didn’t notice, leaving the Law and Order actor hanging for several seconds.

“I’m already nervous,” Bryan explained in his defense. “We tanked on Catchphrase … I’m a little rattled.”

Fallon showed the audience the clip of the epic high-five fail from the commercial break, and the crowd burst into laughter. Check out the awkward moment in the clip below.

Bryan recently released his new record, Kill the Lights, Aug. 7, and has been on his Kick the Dust Up tour around the country with Florida Georgia Line, Randy Houser, Dustin Lynch and Thomas Rhett. The album is available now, and a deluxe version with three additional songs is available exclusively at Target.
