I’ve got a HUGE soft spot in my heart for firefighters and am very proud to tell you that several firefighters from various fire departments in Tioga County will graduate tonight from the NYS Firefighter One course.

The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Office of Fire Prevention and Control, has developed recommended minimum training standards for firefighters to provide guidance and promote best practices for firefighter training and education in the State of New York.

Each of the students who participated in the NYS Firefighter One course have sacrificed countless hours over the last three months to train in this grueling class. They’ve trained for everything from confined spaces escapes, to hazmat situations to how to put out the fire at all stages.

If you’re interested in showing some support to those individuals who put their lives on the line every time they walk into a blaze, graduation will take place at Campville Fire Department (6153 New York 17C, Endicott) at 7pm.
