A three-story structure is being built on Clinton Street in the First Ward where the former hotel had stood for decades. Fire tore through the abandoned building in June 2013.

The First Ward Action Council is redeveloping the property. Council president Jerry Willard said there will be 10 units on the two upper floors of the new building, which he expects will be called the "Lincoln Apartments."

Willard said there is a waiting list of prospective tenants for the one-bedroom apartments.

Two storefronts will be located on the street level of the building.

A structure east of the project site which previously had housed a series of restaurants is to be torn down this winter.

Willard said that site - at the corner of Clinton Street and St. Cyril Avenue - will be used for parking and a green space.

The First Ward Action Council has received funding for construction of the mixed-use building.
