One of the reasons I love the Southern Tier is for the way churches go all out for Lent.

They have special services and open their doors to the community with food events. Lots and lots of food events! Here is some of what you can enjoy during Lent.

All Saints Church, 42 Harry L. Drive in JC, has weekly pierogi sales through the season. Potato or sauerkraut is available every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Call 797-3026.

Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave in Endicott, is hosting an Easter bake sale. They will have walnut, poppy seed, kolachki, pascha bread, and pirogi. Advanced orders please. Call 785-4710 or 687-6429. Pick up is on April 12th from 9 am to noon. Cookies will be available for sale.

The Joseph P. Mangan Post #1194 is hosting Lenten fish fry's, at the Post 3363 West Service Road in Binghamton. The dinners are every Friday in Lent from this Friday to April 18th at 5 pm.

St. Anthony of Padua Church, 300 Odell Ave. in Endicott, is hosting Lenten fish dinners every Friday through April 11. Serving time is 4 to 6:30 pm. Take outs and drive through from 3 pm.

St. Michael’s, 296 Clinton Street in Binghamton, hosts a pirohi sale every Friday in Lent. Order potato or cabbage by calling 729-0261. Pick up is Thursdays 10 am to 5 pm and Fridays 10 to 11 am then 1:30 to 5 pm. Lunches served Fridays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Sacred Heart Ukrainian Church, the wooden church on the hill in Johnson City, hosts Friday Lenten dinners.  Served 4:30 to 6:30 pm, they includes pirohi, halupki, homemade soup, or fish and dessert. For take out, call 797-6294.

The Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street in Endwell, hosts Lenten fish dinners through April 11th.  Serving time 3:30 to 7 pm or until they run out of fish. Dinners include: Baked/Fried Haddock or Shrimp, Macaroni & Cheese, Cole Slaw, Applesauce, Homemade Dessert. Drive thru and take out available.
