During the rescue effort at ground zero after the September 11th attacks, about 300 dogs were sent in, both to search and to cheer people up. Bretagne is believed to be the last  surviving dog.

Bretagne recently celebrated her 16th birthday and she and her handler Denise Corless were treated to a very special day in New York to say thank you for what she did on September 11th and during the days after.

The heroic dog was given VIP treatment, arriving at 1 Hotel Central Park in a stretch limo, given a hero’s welcome, and her own suite for the day which included room service with lots of treats.

To top it off, Bretagne was also featured on a billboard in Times Square.
