Kaitlyn Jackson Talks American Idol, Hitmaker, and Her Future [Q & A]
When most people are 15 years old, they’re busy fretting about a chemistry quiz or planning a trip to the mall with friends. Kaitlyn Jackson? I’m sure she does those things. Oh … And she’s just building a successful music career. It’s just a day in the life of the one of the Southern Tier’s brightest talents.
In case you missed Rich Birdsall’s live interview with Kaitlyn, I managed to steal her for a minute and sneak in a few more questions about her experience on American Idol, the Hawk Hitmaker Challenge, and what’s next.
The Hawk: What have you learned so far being on American Idol? Is there one aspect that stands out as a takeaway?
The biggest thing I’ve learned is to be true to yourself. They’re (American Idol) not looking another Taylor Swift, or Carrie Underwood, or Jennifer Lopez, or even Beyonce. They want something new. Know who you are as an artist.
The Hawk: Do you have anything to say to the people in your hometown and/or in this area?
The support that I’ve gotten is absolutely amazing. I’m so blessed. To know that people are there to support me in such a significant time in my life is so awesome. It’s awesome to know that I’ve got people behind me. It was great to be able to share this experience with everybody!
The Hawk: What’s next?
We’ve started toying with the idea of getting a band together and exploring that. I do a lot of performances over the summer. I love the performance environment and don’t want to leave it completely. But, I know that making it is a one-in-a-billion shot. I need something more stable… maybe television broadcasting? Hopefully this whole American Idol thing works out and I don’t have to do anything about that.
The Hawk: What was your favorite part of the Hawk Hitmaker Challenge?
The live finale was definitely my favorite part! I love performing live and so that was the highlight!
Make sure you catch Kaitlyn Jackson on American Idol and make sure to spread the word that we’re now accepting entries for this year’s Hitmaker Challenge.
