Zikuski says people not attending Friday’s funeral service should try to avoid the area of Main and Baldwin streets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Representatives of law enforcement agencies from across the region will attend the service.

Police say Smith was shot two times by a Chenango County man in front of the Southern Tier Imaging office on Harrison Street just after 7 a.m. Monday.

Smith had responded to a report of a disturbance at the medical office.

Investigators say the shooting suspect was James Clark of Greene. Clark was shot by another police officer who arrived moments after Smith was wounded.

Both men were taken to Wilson Medical Center’s emergency department, just a short distance from the shooting scene.

Smith died about an hour later and Clark died about two hours after that.

Clark was employed as an MRI technician at Southern Tier Imaging.
