An unidentified Johnson City police officer was shot and killed this morning close to Southern Tier Imaging, next to UHS Memorial Wilson Hospital this morning.  The suspect in the shooting was also pronounced dead following surgery at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

According to WNBF's Bob Joseph, a bomb squad was called in to assist as there were threats made at the scene on Harrison Street in Johnson City. There is a scheduled news conference with Johnson City Police Chief Joseph Zikuski this afternoon at 2pm.  News Radio WNBF will cover this conference.

Crime scene investigators are still on the scene and there are a number of buildings around the Wilson Memorial Hospital complex that are closed, as the investigation continues.

According to the hospital, Pre-Admission Testing, Ambulatory Surgery, Neurological Associates and Pulmonary Services remain open.  Hospital officials are advising patients and visitors to avoid Harrison and Hudson Streets in the vicinity of UHS Wilson Memorial Hospital.

2:30pm UPDATE:

According to WBNG-TV, Johnson City Police Officer David Smith was the police officer killed in today's shooting. The suspect who also died was James Clark of Greene, NY.
