Jamie Lee Curtis to Reprise Iconic ‘Halloween’ Role for New Film

Here’s a surprising bit of news for your Friday: Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to the Halloween franchise to reprise her iconic role as Laurie Strode in David Gordon Green’s new sequel. As Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum promised earlier this week, that film – simply titled Halloween — will arrive in 2018. If it doesn’t meet that deadline, Blum says you can kill him. (But, you know, don’t do that.)

The news of Curtis’ return comes via the official Blumhouse Twitter account, which also shared an official photo of the actress standing on the front porch of the house from John Carpenter’s original film, with iconic boogeyman Michael Myers lurking behind her:

Curtis is returning to the role she made famous (and vice versa) in Carpenter’s classic 1978 horror film, in which she played Laurie Strode — a babysitter who endures a harrowing Halloween evening when a local killer escapes a mental asylum and returns to his childhood home to kill again. Curtis went on to reprise the role in 1981’s Halloween II, 1998’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and Halloween: Resurrection. (She also had an uncredited voice cameo in the vastly underrated Halloween III.)

Now, even the most casual Halloween fan could probably tell you that Curtis’ Laurie Strode dies at the beginning of Halloween: Resurrection, which may have some confused about her return to the franchise. But according to director David Gordon Green and screenwriter Danny McBride, their film will ignore most of the sequels in the series — which means Laurie Strode never died.

Halloween (the new one) will arrive on October 19, 2018.
