It’s Okay to Have a Bad Day
Lately, I've found myself pulling back from social media because it's become a big a dumping ground for pessimists who rather air their dirty laundry than deal with it without notifying the world and I just don't need all that negativity in my life.
I'm all for living a happy life. I'm all for making a decision to be happy and for finding joy in the small things. However, I know that being happy all of the time, and over the top happy, just isn't realistic. As a matter of fact, it's annoying.
We all know someone who never has a bad day. Like ever. They're the person who walks out the boss's office after being screamed at with a smile on their face and a spring in their step. That's not normal. Personally, I think that people who are all unicorns and butterflies all of the time are scary. Why? Because I know that one day they'll snap and when they do, it'll be epic.
If you're someone who thinks you need to put on a happy face all of the time, you really don't. According to You Beauty, researchers say that if you're an eternal optimist, you really do need to allow yourself to feel moments of sadness, disappointment, and hurt because if you don't allow yourself to feel all of the emotions that life throws at us, you'll never really experience for real happiness. As they put it, It’s kind of like not missing the sun until it rains."
We should all try to be as happy as we can every day, but remember that it's perfectly okay to have a bad day because we all have them. What's not okay is spewing your bad day all over others (like on social media) in a childish way or putting others down so that you feel better about yourself.
