Mayor Richard David last August announced he planned to release the list of people who had failed to pay parking fines.

The names fill 206 pages which now are posted online.

According to the mayor, $740,796.25 in fines are outstanding from 15,456 tickets issued before January 1, 2015.

Based on the now-public list, the top amount owed by one person is $1,500 for 20 tickets.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said almost everyone gets an occasional parking ticket. But, he said, the public should know the names of people "who have racked up hundreds of dollars or even thousands of dollars in fines and basically leave taxpayers with the bill."

A disclaimer notes the names were obtained through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles based on vehicle plate information on the date a parking ticket was issued. The information doesn't necessarily indicate the name of the person who actually parked the vehicle. The ticketed vehicle may now be owned by someone else.

The disclaimer also indicates the list includes names of people who are disputing their tickets. Those cases are said to represent about $10,000 of the amount owed.
