All of us in the Southern Tier of New York and North Eastern Pennsylvania know the impact of a hurricane.  And now, almost a year later, we are watching Tropical Storm Isaac, expected to make an impact on the poor Republic of Haiti and the coast of Florida.

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Central New York Region is deploying 7 local volunteers to Florida to assist in response efforts.  The Red Cross is also sending people in to Haiti, with many people forced to reside in camps and shelters from the last powerful hurricane that hit the Caribbean country.

I have friends in Haiti and I have friends in Florida so my thoughts and prayers are with them in the coming days and hours.  And of course we are holding our breath here in the Southern Tier as well, as there are still many people in the Hawk listening area that are still facing challenges from the devastation of Hurricane Irene.
