I don't know how it is for you, but finding a little peace and quiet during Christmastime is virtually impossible. Family time, parties, extra hours at work and excited kids all add up to very little alone time. However, with a little creativity you can still keep your sanity and find a little time for yourself so you don't have a meltdown.

Here's what you do:

  • Offer to run errands: If your mom ran out of vanilla extract and it's cookie baking time, offer to go to the store for her. You'll look like you're being helpful and you'll get some time to unwind. Turn up your favorite songs on the radio and enjoy the drive!

  • Offer to wash dishes after dinner: I'll be the first to admit that I detest washing the dishes, but if your relatives are driving you batty, doing the dishes might not be such a bad option. You can tune out while helping out!

  • Be an early bird or a night owl: This isn't hard to do, especially if you are stuck on an air mattress, or worse, the floor! Get up early, make some coffee and veg out with the sunrise. On the other hand, wait until everyone goes to bed and then make your self some hot cocoa grab some cookies and veg out in front of the TV with a Christmas movie.

  • Save your wrapping until the last minute: This is a no-brainer. Wrapping gifts gives you the perfect excuse to close off the rest of the company and focus on your project.
