Jack Williams, the Regional Director of the Department of Transportation joined us in the Hawk studio this morning to talk about the work that begins on Prospect Mountain lane shifts this afternoon.

Here’s what’s happening today:

  • Construction work at Prospect Mountain will require the long term closure of State Route 7 southbound ramp to Interstate 81 northbound/State Route 17 westbound beginning at 3pm today. A detour will take you through State Route 7 northbound to Interstate 81 northbound/ Route 17 westbound.
  • Also closing at 3pm today is the Interstate 81 northbound ramp at exit 4S (Binghamton) beginning at 3pm.  A detour will take you through exit 3 to Broad Avenue to Bevier Street onto Route 7 southbound.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.  According to Jack, some super major closures are coming in May.  Jack asked us to stress to you that it's better to avoid the Prospect Mountain area and try to find alternate routes around because the closures and detours are going to cause traffic to be even heavier. So if you don’t know alternate ways, you might want to start mapping them out now before things get even crazier in May.
