Look around your house.  I bet you will find bottles of unwanted or expired prescription drugs in plain site or tucked away in a cabinet. Leaving these drugs around is dangerous if they get in to the wrong hands and could lead to accidental poisonings, abuse and overdoses.

It's very important you don't toss them in the trash or worse yet, flush them down the toilet that would in turn get in to your drinking water and and cause future problems.  Do! get of them but do it safely.

Some drug stores like CVS do take them back.  I just confirmed with the Broome County Sheriff's Department that they have a drop box located in the administration lobby at 155 Lt. VanWinkle Drive in Binghamton from 8am-5pm weekdays.

In Tioga County a new Medication Drop Box has been set up in the main lobby of the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office located at 103 Corporate Drive in Owego, between 8am and 4pm weekdays.

These drop off locations accept controlled substances, pills, powders, inhalers, epi-pens, nonprescription drugs, pet medications, and over the counter medications. Liquids, lancets, sharps and needless can't be accepted.

Please note that the medication will be taken for free and drop off is completely anonymous.
