Whether a military member has served in a war zone or in a peaceful area overseas, it doesn’t matter to us. At the Hawk, we strongly believe that every returning military member should know that they are loved and appreciated. They should know that their homecoming is a time when political opinions are put aside and a unified front is formed out of respect and admiration for them giving of themselves.

On Wednesday July 30, 2014, Endicott resident Michael Sloan of the United States Army will return home after serving the past two years in Korea.

Michael’s mom Kathy will be picking him up in Syracuse at 10:50am and will be driving him home to 2206 North Street in Endicott (across from Gault Toyota) and expects to be home by 12:15pm. Kathy says that Michael won't expect people to line the street in front of his home, so we think that we should surprise him and do this. If you plan on participating, please feel free to wear patriotic type clothes, wave flags and make welcome home signs.

Again, Michael is expected to turn down his street, 2206 North Street in Endicott at 12:15pm Wednesday July 30th, so we ask you be in place no later than 12pm in the event he runs early.

Imagine how much it would mean to Michael to turn down his street and see a large group of people waiting for him as he comes home, clapping and cheering and thanking him for his selflessness. It’d be pretty spectacular. Please consider going and if you can’t, please spread the word to anyone you think might be able. It’s the least we can do.

If you know of a military member returning home, please let us know about them here:
