The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse is here. It runs through September 5th. As we all know there is a lot to see and do including great country concerts. But did you know that you can be a participant at the Great NYS Fair too?

From poultry to poetry, talent to trees, the Fair has competitions to give everyone a chance to compete. There is something for everyone to compete in. Some of the competitions have been around as long as the Fair has been here (1841) and others are more modern.

The classic competitions include agricultural and animal competitions which includes horse shows, flower and table setting competitions. There's professional competitions for wines, dairy products, even Christmas trees.

The NYS Fair has competitions in culinary arts, amateur winemaking and fine arts. They even offer offbeat competitions like a daily rooster crowing contest.

There is the Bucket of Junk competition. That's a competition to turn a collection of parts into something useful.

To find out more about the competitions or to enter, go here. Remember when it comes to the Great New York State Fair it's "Lots of new and Tons of Tradition."
